Body By Vi Shakes– Full Disclosure

I’ve been a little slack in getting this body by vi shake update out. Meant to have it on Monday….oh well.  Just two weeks to go (as of Monday) on my first 90 day challenge. Yep. My first. I’m going to be a little short of my goal for body fat, so figured I’d grab another 90 days…but, we’ll see how the next two weeks go.

I called this one “body by vi full disclosure” for my friend DS. She pointed out that my blog made it sound like I’ve only been taking body by vi shakes.

I figured it was self evident…especially making fun of my formerly inaccurate view of elliptical machines! Ha!

However, she probably has a valid point. On a couple fronts actually. So, here goes:

1) Yes, I’m hitting the gym. To me, the results I’ve achieved are fantastic for the limited time I’m at the gym. 45 minutes of weights, 3 times per week. Strictly timed–don’t really want to be a “gym rat.” 20 minutes of cardio, 3 times per week. To me, this is a ridiculously small amount of time. Especially when I see people in there for literally hours. How do I know? They brag about it. Its usually in the middle of a conversation where some guy is flexing for no reason, “Yep….ahhhh….kick ass workout today man….pumped iron for 2 hours….”….Moron. Dude….you’re doing something wrong if you’re in the gym for Hours a day and you’re not a fitness model sponsored by some supplement company or pimpin’some new energy drink.

2) Yes, you COULD achieve the same results on your own, no visalus shakes. The easy way would be another meal replacement shake. There are good ones out there, even a couple great ones. But, this brand fell in my lap, I like it, and I’ll probably promote it as a distributor and make a couple bucks. Why the hell not?

3) Yes, you COULD achieve the same results on your own with food you already buy. Okay, this one is hysterical to try. The fastest way to lose fat and gain muscle is 5-6 small meals a day. Depending on what you read, they should be balanced equal protein, equal carbs, zero sat fat. Or 30/30/20…and….if you’re trying to lose weight…200-300 calories each. If you are trying to pack on size….maybe 400-600 calories each time. Ever tried prepping 5-6 meals a day? I don’t care who you are–damn near impossible. For the record though, there is a guy on Youtube that goes by Scooby. He’s a monster…claims to be all natural. Not sure how he finds the time, but kudos to him! Oh yah…don’t forget to pound the multivitamins as eating tiny meals like this is a nightmare to try to ensure you get all the proper vitamins, minerals and macronutrients when its coming in waves of 5-6 meals!

If you find other bodybyvi blogs, and even visit the main site, the real point of the 90 day challenge is to ultimately, change your “lifestyle.” Something healthier. Leading to happier. Leading to more fulfilling and satisfying. Yep, you’ll lose weight. Yep, you’ll tone up. But those are only the icing and sprinkles on the cake.

Well DS–did this one meet your FDA guidelines? (FDA = Fred’s Darla Approval) hahahaha….by the way, the body by vi shake ingredients list is coming–been too damn busy to find an easy one to read online.

Oh, Fred- how can I NOT respond to this??? LOL!

First, I must tell you with all sincerity how proud I am of you (and your lovely wife) for making this lifestyle change. I am truly impressed with your dedication.

Ok- here goes. In regards to the working out, thanks for clearing that up for everyone! I did read the post about the eliptical machine…(nice one, by the way). I just felt that it was important for folks to know the frequency of your workouts so they could make an educated decision about your product. I also agree that it should not take hours at the gym to get fit, increase metabolism, etc. In fact, I think that there is alot to be said for shorter, high intensity workouts. 5-6 small meals per day is good, just be careful with the caloric intake. A huge mistake that many people make is not eating enough calories. In basic terms, this sends your body into a starvation mode where it stores everything! Caculate your basal metabolic rate to get an idea. You can find the formula online. This is how much your body needs to just do it’s basic functions on a day to day basis. The ingredient list- I do find it odd that it is so hard to find online. Lastly, I’m sure that you are aware that most vitamins taken in excess are essentially expensive urine. :)

I am by no means an expert on this. It has been over 10 years since I have worked in this field. Even then, I worked mainly with cardiac patiens who are definitely a special population. I may just need to go pull out some of my old college text books…

With all of this being said, I don’t disapprove of your shakes, but I think that I will stick to eating a balanced diet, (for the most part), exercise, and take my multi-vitamins and omega-3 supplements. I respect what you are doing. You are very inteligent and I have no doubt that you would only endorse something that you believe in!

    DS :)

Haha…figured you couldn’t resist. And, I actually agree with all your points–there’s a first! For the record, because I’m watching my body fat percentage AND weight…I do know when I’m eating too little….I did last week….lost 2 pounds of hard earned muscle damnit! No worries….just means I get to eat more protein…. :)
